Mike Cavic landed Belgrade this evening...
|
(Belgrade, March 22) -- Since he
has been suspended from the 29th European Championships according to the
decision of the LEN disciplinary panel meeting (Friday evening), Mike
Cavic, new European record holder of the men's 50 butterfly, left the
Netherlands. Late this evening, after landing Belgrade's airport "Nikola
Tesla", a crowd press conference has been held... |
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
Mike Cavic again explained
for the Serbian media: "That was my idea with a little help of my girl
friend from Belgrade who visited me in Islamorada (Florida) few weeks ago...
I didn't do it to provoke anger, I didn't do it to provoke violence. I
had to do it to help the people of my nation, knowing how hard it is for
them there... I am proud of what I did in Eindhoven" |

Unbelievable
decision of the LEN
(Eindhoven, NED March 21, 2008)
- Lately last evening the LEN body finaly decided.. Here bellow is the
official report. |
---------------------------------------------- |
Decision of the LEN Panel for Disciplinary
Matters and Disputes Incident during the men’s 50m butterfly victory ceremony |
. |
The LEN Panel for Disciplinary Matters
and Disputes met yesterday night and discussed the incident occurred during
the presentation and the victory ceremony of the men’s 50m butterfly; event,
on the 19th of March 2008 at the 29th European Swimming Championships in
Eindhoven. |
. |
The Panel conducted a hearing with
the parties involved and found that the inscription on the T-shirt worn
by the Serbian athlete Mr Milorad Cavic constitutes a clear political action
in violation of the LEN Guidelines for Safety and Security at LEN Events. |
. |
As a consequence, the Panel has
decided to suspend Mr Milorad Cavic from further participation in individual
events at the 29th European Swimming Championships. Furthermore, the Serbian
Swimming Federation has been fined with seven thousand Euro, bearing also
the costs of the LEN Panel for Disciplinary Matters and Disputes Hearing. |
